About the Show
Who is part of the working class? What are their struggles and hopes? What is it that shapes the consciousness of working people? The fact is that we all live in a class society. Even though this fact fundamentally shapes our lives, we are rarely invited to think about it. In May 2020, En Masse was launched with the mission to build working-class unity in our struggles for economic and social justice by examining the dynamics of class and work using social theory, history, and personal experience.
En Masse is a storytelling podcast about working-class life by oral historian and labor activist, Liz Medina. In each episode, we hear and discuss individual testimonies to the human costs of economic processes as well as working-class resistance. Each season reveals universal aspects of class and work through the personal experiences of the workers interviewed. En Masse is a member of the Labor Radio Podcast Network.
About the Host
My name is Liz Medina. I am an interdisciplinary artist, labor activist, and political educator who brings together oral histories and social theory. I'm also the co-chair of the Goddard College Staff Union, UAW 2322, and the Acting Director of the Vermont State Labor Council, AFL-CIO. My work is about revealing the lived and imagined systems that construct our lives. En Masse presents stories of struggle and hope from the working class. With your support, I will maintain this cultural space for working people to reflect on our lives, recognizing ourselves as agents of change and makers of history.
